#46 Until you value yourself, you won’t value your time
Until you value your time, you will not do anything with it —M. Scott Peck
Hello how everyone is doing? I hope as long weekend happened in Indonesia, you get to spend peaceful loooong weekend. If you go out, make sure to wear mask, bring hand sanitizer, and wash hands regularly! On our last #SalMonday episode, we invited Meiska’s dear colleague Shanaz. She proposed a theme of what if our high hopes instead offended and crashed us as a being. Click here in case you missed it!

As a person, sometimes it’s hard to believe reading an accurate horoscope! Of course I don’t believe when people tried to predict something scary. But it’s pretty mood lifting when we read the good ones. It’s normal after all, don’t you think? How about you, do you believe in horoscopes?

Some websites about horoscopes I read, pretty much describe Cancer, well in my case my zodiac, pretty accurate. Especially about our reactions when Cancerians sad, or feel like standing in their lowest-point state. Before I tell you how it works, here are some Cancer accurate points written in Thought Catalog:
They find it difficult and hard to open up to those who do not personally understand them, and often won’t bother trying to befriend or court them.
It’s true and sucks at the same time that we are so private. You might see us like walking with four body guards. That’s the invisible the tall and invincible wall we build around us. This circle wall, expands and shapes around people whom we found so dearly. This indicates not only we’re hardly open up, but also protect our loved ones at all cost.

This also relates that we choose to hide when we feel so sad or things get problematic, especially me. I will hide as long as I need to recover and solve those troubles. Beside that, I will tell my close people to find support and convince me that everything will be just fine! And yes, I get emotional easily. This also determines how long it takes to put everything behind first, and return to my normal “mode”. Just like crab, we hide inside our shell.

Welcome to “Three wise monkeys”, a writing theme from Elsa that is going to be published every last Saturday of the month!

The three wise monkeys symbolize "See no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil". It’s a self-reflection about what I have been through for the whole month for a better self, society, and environment. To stay grounded, I want to appreciate small things that have happened in my life.
See no evil
As a person with blind emotion awareness, it’s really helpful to read HBR Guide of Emotional Intelligence this month. This book is brilliant – it doesn’t use long narrative text every chapter, and it’s a collective writing from professional leaders, Ivy league professors, and experts in psychology.

At first, I thought it is cringe to learn emotions. Yet HBR made it ‘emotionless’ and data driven, so I do like it! For example, a chapter from Susan David below.

Hear no evil
I do believe there is a (magic) positive correlation between unconscious listening to the ability of learning a language. I used to listen to British Council Arts podcast for three weeks before my IELTS test every night before sleep. It was actually a five-minutes lullaby for me, I never succeeded to listen it seriously. The magic happened – I got a highest score for the listening section in the IELTS test.

After having an IELTS test, then I will have a national test for my Swedish language in February. Do you know what I do to make peace with myself as if I study although I actually do nothing? I listen to Swedish radio online!

So this is my new favorite radio, Vinyl FM from Stockholm. They play The Strokes, Guns N‘ Roses, The Cure, Michael Jackson, and all similar vibes I love (if you love it as well, you can listen here) with Swedish announcers. Do not expect me to understand what they said, I do rely on the magic — hoping my unconscious brain will process it!
Speak no evil
I have been mentoring one young lady named Ruth as I wrote in Salmon Mentai #29. I want to unleash her potential and prepare her for career environment after having a bachelor’s degree this year.

This month session was interesting for us. In September we took an oath to do something persistently for a full month, then we would present the result in October. Ruth was presenting her writing project @thenotesbyruth, and I was presenting about my daily body combat exercise at home!

We shared our struggle to be consistent for our own project, and we did amaze with our results together. As a person who values walk the talk, I do realize that having a support system is also a factor to make the impossible possible!
