When I enrolled to my undergraduate university, I did not know that I should live at the freshmen dormitory for a year. Fast forward to the present, the freshmen student class of 2020 only attend online class from home, and are not experiencing their first year living at the dorm. Recently, someone made a video introducing the dorm building, location of each building, facilities, the social impact, and the list goes on. Which brings a bunch of alumnus (and some of my friends) threw back to their unforgettable and warm slash memorable moments there, except me haha.

I was living at one of the four existing buildings. My dorm building was the only one that located on the lowest ground, so all of us had to take the stairs down to enter the living room. Which automatically, made the phone signal weak haha. But straight to the point, I personally did not like it there because I couldn’t live up to my own hygiene standard, and it was socially weird because the Muslim “religious” community was too strong for me to the point I could not keep up with it anymore.

The worst thing happened when two weeks before the final exam. My roommate was infected with chicken pox and I did not know when it began. She did not even evacuate herself, the other two roommates were once infected so they are immune. A week after she recovered, I found those watery pimple in my body, and immediately ran to the closest hospital, and prescribed with high-dose medication. I couldn't go home yet because all postponed classes and last meeting of laboratory practices were scheduled in that week. Once they all finished, I went back home to Cilegon and hospitalized because none of my family was ever infected. Phew what a turn of event that was!

I might not had the best memories, but thankfully there are few of friends who were friendly, and didn’t see me as different “kind” of Muslim and discriminated me. But I was proud that I passed those times, and assertive enough to refrain from checking out before the end of my freshmen academic year. I think God and universe made me suffer from that because in return, I found my best friends from my real class in Food Science and Technology haha. My life became even much better since I joined the student executive board of my faculty, in sports department!

Yesterday we commemorated #WorldFoodDay and the 75th anniversary of FAO, so happy World Food Day everyone! May we contribute to make foods more accessible and nutritious to all people in the world!

Talking about foods, people have never been stopping to debate about the eating etiquette. Don’t ask me why, we just want to argue on something. Two debatable menus popped up in my mind are pizza and rice porridge. How to eat those menus properly?
How to eat pizza properly: knife and fork, or with hands?
The answer is not simple. We need to fold it like wallet. What?
You read it right. The single portion Neapolitan pizza should be folded two times. First, we need to fold it a half, then to fold it half again. Do not hold it by the crust, but eat it from the crust. Mind blowing! It seems like eating crepes for me.
Or if we have a huge American slice one, we can do a New York style. We fold it half vertically and hold it by the crust.

Just don’t ever eat pizza with knife and fork. Don’t be a second Trump.
How to eat rice porridge properly: stir it all together with spoon or scoop it without stirring?
To understand the context, it is a huge debate in Indonesia on how you eat rice porridge properly. The Indonesian porridge connoisseurs are parted into two sects. One prefers to stir the porridge and the toppings together before eating (known as #TeamBuburDiaduk), and one prefers not to do so (known as #TeamBuburGakDiaduk). There is even a Quora thread about it!

The “stirred porridge” team believes that all of the ingredients needs to be mixed properly, so the flavors would equally spread while eating. That makes sense. But how could I have an appetite to eat it by looking at my bowl with the stirred porridge? Damn.
For this, I’m on the “unstirred porridge” team together with Tika Putri. The beauty of the abang buryam or the chef to put all the toppings aesthetically should be appreciated. Scooping without stirring is a relaxation for my eyes (and the enzyme in my mouth is ready to process it!).
