#21 When the dog bites, when the bee stings
I simply remember my favorite things and then I don't feel so bad.
Hi again, happy Monday! We hope you were well rested this weekend and got the face cover on whenever you were out. Never stop enjoying all the little moments in your life, it brings you joy!
In the last edition Meiska was writing about how to use social media mindfully and responsibly, while Elsa was writing her farewell letter to Dublin, Ireland. You can check it back here in case you miss it.
On this episode #SalMonday, Meiska is inviting her former colleagues at work, Mutia Amalia or Dea. She used to work as Broadcast Management Manager and often invited to support AFC competitions as Marketing Officer. Right now, she is a Producer in a newly established company focusing in digital streaming or OTT (Over The Top) platform. Dea is hardworking, professional, and team player person. She’s always emotional (in funny way) and takes good care of people around her! The theme she proposed today is

Meiska
Mutia or Dea is my best friend at work (well, used to) and we remain close until now! The first time I got close with her was during my first involvement of youth competition in 2017. Dea is the real joker! She made the whole room laughed because of her spontaneous jokes. Other than that, it’s easy for her to get a long with new people. Most importantly, she is such a reliable person, and that’s why I always talk to her when I am looking for advices.

Here are my favorite things about myself:
Professional

It’s often said by my colleagues. I think because I can work with every one regardless the like and dislike, even the toughest person in the room. I can think of it because every time I am assigned to a task, I will gather all related information from the expert or boss, design the task with combining additional information or reference, revert it back to them for feedback, and complete the administration flows. In short, I always ask and confirm things I’m planning is right and allocated (hoping they’re not sick of me haha)! I believe it’s a common thing for everyone to do but not everyone found it easy to deal with.
I asked my boyfriend for this one haha! I’m not sure it’s a Cancer thing or I just am. But when it comes to feeling, I always do it wholeheartedly. Especially with people I care about the most, they have my attention 100%! It takes a lot of time for me to decide what kind of birthday presents that is suitable for my inner circle. I gather information like remembering the last time I talked with them, their social media posts, did they mention they want or need something? Or asking my other friends, is buying this or that suitable for them? But again, being too thoughtful can cost your energy too because you tend to overthink. I guess I enjoy it haha! My boyfriend said,
You take really good care of me, your friends, and family. You remind me to do little things that most of the time neglected. Like cleaning up my room!
I trust my guts. Even though when I’m panicked I doubt myself, and make sure I decide or do the right thing A LOT! Sometimes I just know I know. I believe what I’m doing will direct me to the right path, otherwise I know how to correct which mistake I should improve. When I’m not sure, I will make sure again and again until I realize the only thing to know what’s right is by making mistake first. It’s weird to describe how it works, though. But I can make sure that little voice inside your head, is one of your guts too, trying to whisper you something. Try to listen to it too!
Elsa
I am the youngest child in my family. Starting from the left in this photo— it is me, my sister, my mom, and my dad. I was having an exchange in Finland so here are the t-shirts we wore.

Being far from my family means I am also absent from the low-key birthday celebration we usually have. If someone in the family has a birthday, we usually stay at home and have a birthday cake and pray together. To go to a restaurant, or to have a family trip, or to give a birthday gift is not our thing because it is a bit steep. We just nest in our home and nothing is special happened but cake. Maybe that is why I do not really like a huge birthday celebration and always hard to find an idea for a birthday gift for friends.
When this topic came up, I challenged myself to ask my family what they perceived about me. It was an awkward moment for me to ask them because we had not been used to talk something personal in a family. We rarely talked things related to feeling and all sensitive matters each other.
What are the favorite things about Elsa according to her family?
Elsa’s dad - Budi Prasetio
“Elsa is black skinned, tractable, tenacious, determined with her goals because sky is her limit.”
He is proud I am black skinned, similar to him. He is a Javanese by appearance (although he cannot speak Javanese language at all), and I am the child who has the Javanese skin from him. Meanwhile my mom is Manadonese, and my sister is white skinned looks like her.
There is also a pole apart value— I am really obedient but determined to something I want to achieve. Since I am a youngest child, being phlegmatic is my middle name. Yet being raised by a family with a ‘not so smooth’ financial condition since I was in junior high has pushed me to get what I wanted by my own hand. For what is worth, I am grateful on how it has shaped me.
Elsa’s mom - Juliana Eman
“Is it sort of your hobby? You love the vintage classic things. You are also high energy and have lots of friends”
My mom is smart lady and I am really proud to be a lefty thanks to her blood. She was a left-handed when she was a kid and was forced to be right-handed by her dad. When I was born and showed a sign to be left-handed, thankfully she did not do the same way.
I rarely show my problems to my family, I try to give a harmony within. That is why perhaps the ‘high spirited and have many friends’ came out from my mom. She is also the one with drive and sparks the energy in the family with her laugh and jokes. As an introvert myself, I try to suit in many groups by having her personality in me.
Elsa’s sister - Novarita Adeline Carolina
“Elsa is laid-back person, peacemaker. She does not want to make a problem or get involved into one. She is artsy, she aced to mix and matched in style. She committed to everything she does.”
My sister is seven years older than me. I am a laid-back person thanks to this lady who can sort all the problems in the family out. I do not like to get involved into a problem because it has been solved by her before I knew.
One thing why I still have room to focus to pursue my dream is because my sister is managed to help my parents in Jakarta, while I am here in Dublin (and moving to Stockholm today). She is really responsible person, she is the one I look up to.
